Does your air conditioner and/or heater smell like a dead cat? Are you wondering why this happens and what you can do about it? TundraHeadquarters published some information about the cause and solution of the stinky A/C problem, which goes a little something like this:
- Moisture condenses into standing water inside your air conditioning system.
- This water can’t drain away or evaporate, so it begins to support mold, bacteria, and other nasty yet naturally occurring critters
- When the A/C or heater are turned on, the stench is the smell of the mold/bacteria growing inside your A/C
There are some high-tech and low-tech solutions available, including one solution listed in the comments that suggested spraying nothing more than good old Lysol disinfectant into the vehicles air vents (the ones right behind the hood and in front of the windshield).
There’s also some info about “A/C Misting Services,” something that many auto dealers are offering consumers that’s probably not a good idea. Anyways, check it out.
